The Buffalo Sabres will be represented by six players at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, which will be held from Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 26 in Czechia.

The players set to compete in the tournament include forwards Dylan Cozens (Canada), JJ Peterka (Germany), and Victor Olofsson (Sweden) as well as defensemen Bowen Byram (Canada), Owen Power (Canada), and Rasmus Dahlin (Sweden).

Peterka was named the top forward at last year’s World Championship and took home silver while Jack Quinn, Peyton Krebs, and Devon Levi earned gold medals with Canada’s 5-2 win over Germany in Tampere, Finland.

Germany 8 - Latvia 1

Peterka scored his first two goals of the tournament during the second period to lead Germany to a lopsided win. He buried a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot for his first goal, then saw a pass attempt deflect off traffic and into the net for his second. He totaled four shots in 18:33, which ranked second among German forwards.

Peterka led all forwards in ice time (18:29) and recorded one shot as Germany opened its tournament with a 6-4 victory over Slovakia.

Sweden 5 - United States 2

Dahlin posted three shots in 19:43 of ice time while Olofsson logged two shots in 9:31 in Sweden's win over the United States.

Saturday, May 11

Canada 4 - Great Britain 2

Byram skated a team-high 20:15, had a plus-3 rating, and earned the lone assist on Michael Bunting's first-period goal to tie the score at 1-1 before Canada pulled away with three goals in the second.

Power skated 15:37 and had two shots. Cozens skated 16:07.

United States 6 - Germany 1

Peterka led Germany's forwards in ice time (17:54) for the second straight game and had two shots in the loss.

Sunday, May 12

Canada 5, Denmark 1

Cozens buried a shot from the point to give Canada a 2-0 lead at the end of the first en route to a 5-1 win over Denmark. Cozens skated 14:21 in the win and recorded three shots.

Byram earned the secondary assist on Cozens' goal and logged 17:38 of ice time while Power posted two shots in 12:59.

Sweden 5, Poland 1

Dahlin recorded the primary assist while Olofsson picked up the secondary assist on Andre Burakovsky's third-period tally, which gave Sweden a 4-1 lead. Dahlin skated 21:25 and had a plus-2 rating. Olofsson tallied two shots in 14:29.

Monday, May 13

Sweden 6, Germany 1

Olofsson recorded a goal and six shots in 13:22 of ice time in Sweden’s third straight win. Dahlin, who skated 19:28 and tallied two shots and two assists, fed Olofsson for a one-timer from the point to give Sweden a 3-0 lead with three seconds left in the first period.

Dahlin also registered the primary assist on Sweden’s fourth goal as Carl Grundstrom redirected Dahlin’s shot from the point.

Peterka tallied a team-high four shots in 17:44 of ice time for Germany.

Tuesday, May 14

Canada 7 - Austria 6

Cozens and Byram scored first-period goals and Canada survived a furious comeback push from Austria, who scored five unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 6-1 deficit. John Tavares scored the winning goal for the Canadians in overtime.

Cozens scored his second goal of the tournament to put Canada on the board, a wrist shot from inside the left faceoff circle set up by Andrew Mangiapane. Byram added his first goal and third point of the tournament on a shot that deflected in off traffic late in the period, one of three shots he tallied in 17:34.

Power added an assist in the win for his first point of the tournament.
